Temple of Winged Lions & Byzantine Churches – Petra

The Temple of Winged Lions and three churches overlook the Colonnaded Street on its right side. The Temple of Winged Lions (first photo) is easy to miss because its ruins don’t look like much except for arches. Near the temple however, are three Byzantine churches (2nd, 3rd, last photos). One of the churches boasts four impressive columns built from blue granite from Egypt (4th photo), but the most interesting church (last photo) showcases intact mosaic floors (photos 5,6,7) depicting animals and some biblical symbolism.
