Templar’s Tunnels – Acre

During the end of one of the Crusades the Crusaders had lost the city of Acre but held onto their fortress (next post) on the other side of the town. To access the port the Knights Templar built the Templar’s Tunnels to connect the fortress to the harbor. The tunnels were lost for centuries until it was rediscovered by an old lady in 1994. The story goes that her small house was built over the tunnel and collapsed, revealing the tunnel underneath. Luckily the old lady was fine. The tunnel is impressively built (remember this was the Middle Ages) and gets increasingly narrow as you get closer to the port.
