Tower of London – London

The Tower of London, whose official name is “Her Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress” is a castle in east central London. It was founded in 1066 and the tower itself (the central block), was built in 1078 by William the Conqueror and soon became a symbol of oppression. The Tower was famously used as a prison, although it was supposed to be a royal residence. It has also been a treasury, housed the mint, and also houses the Crown Jewels.
