Easter Sunday: Sunrise Service at the Garden Tomb – Jerusalem

Background: At sunrise on East Sunday the Garden Tomb hosts a service at 6.30am in English. Hundreds of people, usually Protestant or non-Denomination attend. It continues as the sun rises and ends when it’s still early in the morning.

Impressions: This was by far the best service I have attended ever. The Miracle of the Holy Fire was intense (see below), and participating in Easter Mass at the Sepulchre (see above) was a once in a lifetime experience, but this remains the highlight of my Easter. Not only did it take place in a site of major significance (where everything could have happened), but it was just a perfect service. Something about the floral garden, the timing of daybreak on Easter Sunday, and the fact that people from all over the world came for this made it amazing. It was short and sweet, only an hour and a half for songs and a message, but it was enough.
