Mary’s Spring – Ein Karem

On the way to the Church of the Visitation, in the valley near Ein Karem, stands Mary’s Spring, where Mary traditionally drank from before visiting her cousin Elizabeth. Others believe it is where they actually met. The waters at the spring are considered holy and pilgrims used to collect it in bottles. Now a sign in the spring warns that the water is contaminated and not potable. The former Arab residents built a mosque over the spring, and it’s ruins still remain.
